We used Merrie Fredericks of Design Concepts Plus for a large renovation of our home involving our kitchen, mudroom, two bathrooms, dining room, full basement and home gym (probably over 40% of our home overall). It is no exaggeration to say we could not be more pleased with the result. Merrie was a pleasure with which to work during the planning/design phase given her extensive experience, intelligent suggestions and recommendations, and overall excellent taste. The product of the design phase was Merrie’s extremely detailed plans which made every following step of the project go smoothly (from obtaining quotes to actual build). Simply put, I would not consider using anyone other than Merrie for a home project requiring design work and am very grateful to our friends for recommending her. When my husband and I decided to “finish” an entire level of our home (2000 square feet), we knew we wanted to do something extraordinary, nothing cookie cutter or predictable. We also needed a designer/contractor we could trust to handle every detail of the job from beginning to end, creating as little disruption as possible to our already very busy lives. Now, having just completed our entire project, from studs and masonry to furniture and linens we are in love with our new living space. It’s absolutely gorgeous! Different from any other we have seen and uniquely styled to our very particular needs and taste.
Looking back, perhaps that best part was that nothing was ever too much trouble. We were never made to feel like we were asking too much or that we couldn’t change our mind about something along the way. Merrie has always treated us like family and moving forward we plan to invite Design Concepts Plus back into our home to create more amazing living spaces. DCP exceeded our expectations!

I have worked with Merrie Fredericks and her company Design Concepts for the past 17 years. We started with a couple of small painting and wallpaper jobs in my townhouse. She has an unerring eye for what looks right, can always find samples that fit my taste and has assembled a team that can put her vision into practice. Her attention to detail is superb!
After the townhouse, we moved on to a variety of projects over the 12 years that I lived in a single family house. These ranged from redoing all of the bathrooms, renovating the kitchen, adding a sun room, dressing room and outdoor living space, painting and papering. As before, Merrie made the projects fun and relatively easy to handle by providing guidance with my choices and overseeing that all of the work got completed on time and to perfection. Prior to construction, she provided detailed drawings showing exactly how the finished project would look. She was able to incorporate the work of local craftsmen so that each completed project was unique. For example, my master bathroom incorporated a floral tile design done by a local artist in both the shower and tub areas. One of the showers had sandblasted glass doors echoing the pattern in the room’s wallpaper. My dressing room evolved from wasted space under the roof and was designed to perfectly fit all of my clothes. Visitors never failed to comment on how unique and beautiful her work was.

My husband and I have worked with Merrie Fredericks over the past 20 years on various major renovation projects in our home, which was built in 1909. She has totally re-done our kitchen; re-configured our entire 2nd floor, eliminating some bathrooms and adding others, changing the floor plan, designing and building built-in furniture, adding a porch off the master bedroom; she built a pool house in our backyard; totally re-built the garage, adding an indoor spa room (a Japanese soaking tub) and an upstairs gym with a vaulted ceiling; raised the ceiling on the third floor of the main house to include a vaulted ceiling, stonework on the walls and built-in cabinets.
Throughout all this work, Merrie has been a pleasure to work with.
